Vicki’s story

“I’ve been on a food journey for the past 25 years. At 19 my relationship with food changed and then deteriorated.

Since I was four years old, my dream was to become a ballet dancer. After winning a place in a prestigious ballet school during my late teens, I left my hometown of Alice Springs, and headed for Sydney. I was beyond excited as my dream was coming true. Ballet dancers are required to be reed slim so when the Ballet School Principal suggested I lose weight, I tried all sorts of weird and wonderful ways to diet. At the time I weighed 54 kgs!

Due to an injury, my dreams of dancing were dashed and I returned to Alice Springs. Unfortunately, I took with me a distorted view of myself after being constantly told I needed to lose weight. I thought of myself as fat. For more than 10 years I experimented with food and read everything I could on weight loss. With education, came new realisations and slowly I started to see myself differently. My focus shifted from weight loss to health and vitality.

In 2011 I was introduced to raw food and the philosophy blew me away. I was fascinated to learn that everything we consume affects our energy and vibration. I noticed an immediate improvement in my energy levels and enthusiasm for life. My ability to focus and concentrate improved and my brain fog lifted.

I studied the influences of poor digestion and how these hampered the body’s ability to absorb nutrition. Eating on the run, eating while watching TV, eating while annoyed and eating while you are worried about something that has happened or could happen, all affect our digestion. No wonder many of us are mal-nourished!

The nutrient-dense raw food made me feel lighter and brighter. I became more conscious and introduced mindfulness into my food practice. It’s a powerful combination and one that I willingly share in my workshops and raw food classes.

For me, it’s all about the taste and how it makes you feel! If you’re looking for raw food inspiration, great tasting recipes and to understand why raw food makes you feel so good, please ask me.

My romance with dance still lingers. I love nothing more than putting on some great music and dancing in the kitchen while creating exciting new dishes. It’s the love factor that adds to the great taste!
